August 22, 2016: The Mississauga Board of Trade congratulates the Honorable Bardish Chagger on her recent appointment as government House Leader. This appointment does, however, raise some concerns for business. While the Minister’s rise within the Trudeau cabinet is laudable, the concern for the business community is in the Minister’s dual responsibility.

The responsibilities of government House Leader are many, such that the issues facing small business may not receive adequate attention without a dedicated Minister. Small business is the backbone of the Canadian economy, requiring fulltime attention.

With the 2016 federal budget not delivering tax relief for small business as promised, the need for a full time advocate at the cabinet table is all the more pressing.

The Mississauga Board of Trade urges the Prime Minister to immediately appoint a successor to Minister Chagger to manage this critical portfolio.
