Chamber Urges Governments to Pause Non-Urgent Regulatory Proposals During COVID-19

Today, Rocco Rossi, President & CEO, Ontario Chamber of Commerce released the following statement:

“From the outset of this crisis, we have been asking governments to extend the deadline for comment on proposed regulations and pause implementation of new regulations not yet in force. Many of our members are overwhelmed with business continuity planning and supporting public health efforts related to COVID19, leaving them little time to appropriately contribute to government consultations.

“As everyone knows, it is not business as usual in Ontario today. However, many industries are facing ‘business as usual’ deadlines for regulations or consultations in the coming weeks and months. Beyond the obvious strains on business, some of the current proposed regulations may no longer be valid once we emerge from the crisis and face a very different ‘new normal’.”

“We are committed to working with all levels of government to respond and adapt to challenges facing Ontario business.”
