KINGSTON, ONTARIO -Canada’s cleantech sector continues to thrive with innovative ideas that will lead to a greener future for everyone. The Government of Canada is supporting businesses, organizations and entrepreneurs in this space to ensure they have the support they need to create new technologies and good jobs for Canadians.

Today, on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, Mark Gerretsen, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, visited GreenCentre Canada. This Kingston-based not-for-profit organization offers technology development services to companies in the chemical, advanced materials and battery materials sectors that are focused on sustainable innovations.

During the visit, MP Gerretsen announced a Government of Canada investment of $2 million for GreenCentre Canada to support the delivery of the Advance-ON program, which opened for applications today. The program will assist up to 40 small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in southern Ontario as they commercialize their products and scale their businesses. The businesses will benefit from customized technical projects executed by GreenCentre’s expert team of scientists at a significantly reduced cost. This critical work will accelerate market entry by positioning SMEs for private sector investment. This program aligns with the Government of Canada’s priority to foster innovation in green technology and contribute to building a vibrant sector.

Companies and organizations that create clean energy and battery technologies are helping Canada become more environmentally friendly while working to cut greenhouse gas emissions and create new job opportunities for Canadians.
