MISSISSAUGA — Today, the Ontario government welcomed the expansion of Hoffman-La Roche Limited’s (Roche Canada) Global Informatics division at the company’s Mississauga headquarters, which will create up to 250 new, good-paying jobs, drive innovation and accelerate the delivery of groundbreaking health solutions to patients across Ontario and beyond. This investment equates to more than $130 million over five years and was supported by a $3.5 million provincial investment through Invest Ontario. “This investment by Roche is another testament to Ontario’s growing reputation as a global leader in the life sciences sector,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Our government is pleased to support the growth of this Global Informatics Hub with a $3.5 million provincial investment that will create highly skilled, good-paying jobs and drive medical breakthroughs that will improve the lives of people throughout Ontario.” Roche’s investment follows the company’s 2020 pledge to invest $500 million in a new operations hub in Mississauga to oversee its global supply chain. The expanded Global Informatics Hub will position Roche Canada among the top five informatics technology hubs supporting Roche’s global operations. It will create highly skilled, technical jobs in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, computational biology and data analytics, advancing the company’s understanding of diseases. “As one of the largest life sciences jurisdictions in North America, Ontario is a prime location for domestic and international biomanufacturers looking to invest and bring their innovative ideas from lab to market,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “The new jobs in Roche’s Global Informatics Hub are a welcome addition to our province’s growing life sciences ecosystem and represent a vote of confidence in our highly-skilled workforce and research environment. We look forward to seeing this partnership grow and bring economic growth and good-paying jobs to Mississauga.” Since 2018, Ontario has attracted over $5 billion in investments from leading life sciences companies and biomanufacturers, including AstraZeneca, Moderna and OmniaBio, helping to solidify the province as a leader in the sector. As part of our government’s Life Science Strategy, Taking Life Sciences to the Next Level, the province is investing $146 million to build on this momentum and further cultivate the conditions for both domestic and international companies to grow and thrive, right here in Ontario. |
